Link Basics

Linking to a Page or Post on the Same Site

  1. Edit the page or post.
  2. In the Editor box, type the text that you want to use for the link.
  3. Select the text.
  4. Click the first paperclip icon on the toolbar. The Insert/edit link box appears.
  5. Click the gear icon. The Insert/edit link box expands.
    In the “Or link to existing content” section, either:
  • enter a term to search for in the Search box or
  • click to select one of the existing pages or posts
  1. The Insert/edit link box changes to show the new link.
  2. Click away from the box in the content area to close the box.
    Note: Do not click the “x” – that will delete the link.
  1. Update the page or post, and then view it on the front end. Click the link to make sure it works.

        Always test the link because the link editor can be a tad flaky.

Opening a Linked Page or Post in a New Window or Tab

  1. Edit the page or post.
  2. In the Editor box, type the text that you want to use for the link.
  3. Select the text.
  4. Click the first paperclip icon on the toolbar.  The Insert/edit link box appears.
  5. Click the gear icon. The Insert/edit link box expands.
  6. Under the Link Text box, click “Open link in a new tab.”
  7. In the “Or link to existing content” section, either:
  • enter a term to search for in the Search box or
  • click to select one of the existing pages or posts
  1. The Insert/edit link box changes:
  1. Click the away from the box in the content area to close the box.

Note: Do not click the “x” – that will delete the link.

  1. Update the page or post, and then view it on the front end. Click the link to make sure it works.

Updating a Link

  1. Edit the page or post.
  2. In the Editor box, type the text that you want to use for the link.
  3. Click on the link text.  A popup box appears.
  4. Click the pencil icon. The Insert/edit link box appears.
  5. Paste the URL in the box and click the blue Apply button. The Insert/edit link box changes.
  6. Click away from the box in the content area to close the box.
    Note: Do not click the “x” – that will delete the link.
  7. Update the page or post, and then view it on the front end. Click the link to make sure it works.

        Always test the link because the link editor can be a tad flaky.

 

Deleting a Link

  1. Edit the page or post.
  2. In the Editor box, select the link text.
  3. Click the second paperclip icon on the toolbar.
  4. Click Update.
