Step 7: Test the Form, and Revise as Needed

It is very important to test the form to make sure the form works as you expect and that the emails go through and that you are comfortable with the wording on the emails.

When testing the form, use names that are obviously test data, such as cartoon characters.  If you use generic names like Jane or John Smith and forget to remove them, when you see them months later, you (or someone else) could mistake them for real data.

Complete the form using your own email address and click Submit.

You should be redirected to the Confirmation Screen.

Review the screen:

  • Are you satisfied with the wording?
  • Does the formatting of the text and paragraphs look OK?
  • If not, go back and edit the Confirmation.

Check your email.  You should have two:

  • an Admin email with a subject line of “Newsletter signup from…” where … is your name
  • a Newsletter Subscriber Notification Email with a subject line of “Thank you for subscribing to our newsletter”

Review the emails:

  • Are you satisfied with the wording?
  • Does the formatting of the text and paragraphs look OK?
  • If not, go back and edit the Confirmation.

Try replying to the Newsletter Subscriber Notification Email.  The reply should arrive in your inbox (providing you are the form administrator).  It’s important to check that the email path is correct in case the site visitor replies to their notification email and asks a question.
